Translate the following. Don't get too worried about 'es' or 'está' - just think for what it's like use 'es' and for where it is use 'está'. Be careful not to mix up these two words with 'hay' - there is/are.
Causeway Bay is a very busy district in Hong Kong. There are many shops and restaurants. Causeway Bay is close to the city centre. It is in the east of Hong Kong. Victoria Park and the library are close. Unfortunately, CWB is very noisy and there is a lot of pollution. What I like is that there is a lot to do and a lot to see there.
Make a presentation about your area of Hong Kong. Describe where it is, what there is there. Also, give plenty of opinions (positive and negative). If there are two of you, you could make it an interview with questions and answers.
Try using the following sentence starters a few times:
Lo que (no) me gusta es...
Lo que (no) me gusta es que....
Before you start, check with your teacher that you know what the two phrases above mean, and what the difference is between them. How would you continue each sentence?
Also try to use a range of connectors such as 'además' (furthermore) and 'sin embargo' (however). Find others to use too.
Read my description of Big Wave Bay, translating it into English if you have time. What vocabulary can you teach yourself? Do you notice anything about the grammar which is worth noting?
Can you remember the useful word HAY? What does it mean?
Now find all the examples of the word IS in my Spanish paragraph. Do you notice that I use two different words in Spanish for 'is'? That's because there are two different verbs 'to be' in Spanish. SER and ESTAR.
This is some of the worst singing I have ever heard...
Test yourself - can you conjugate the two verbs? You need to click on 'options' and tick 'Spanish first':
